Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

It is one of the easier trekking routes in the Annapurna region. The trail takes you through beautiful Modi khola valley up to Poon-hill, at the foothill of the Annapurna massif.  Poon Hill is a viewpoint to see the Annapurna peaks including Machhapuchhre (Mt. Fishtail), Mt. Dhaulagiri.

It stands out as one of the more straightforward trekking paths within the Annapurna region. The route guides you through the picturesque Modi Khola valley, reaching Poon Hill, nestled at the base of the Annapurna massif. Poon Hill serves as a vantage point offering panoramic views of the Annapurna peaks, including Machhapuchhre (Mt. Fishtail) and Mt. Dhaulagiri to the north, while showcasing a sublime valley to the south. The area is primarily inhabited by the Gurungs and Magars, two prominent ethnic groups in Nepal. On the descent back to Pokhara, the journey passes through the cobblestone courtyards of Ghandruk village, an additional well-known traditional settlement of the Gurungs, providing an opportunity to immerse in their timeless traditions and culture through interactions with the local residents.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu:

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, our representative will greet you, provide airport transportation, and assist with hotel check-in. Typically, there are no scheduled tour activities for the day, allowing you the option to explore the lively area of Thamel. You can choose to have dinner at one of Thamel's restaurants or return to your hotel for a relaxing evening.

 

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing:

Commencing around 9 or 9:30 am after breakfast, our representative will introduce you to the tour guide. The experienced guide will oversee all arrangements for the day's exploration. The itinerary includes visits to significant sites in Kathmandu such as Boudhanath (known as Little Tibet), Pashupatinath (a prominent Hindu temple), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), and Kathmandu Durbar Square. These are all recognized as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

 

Day 3: Kathmandu to Pokhara (910m), Approx. 6 hours drive or 30 minutes flight:

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive or fly to Pokhara. In the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll around the lakeside city. Early evening, attend a trek briefing for final preparations.

 

Day 4: Drive to Naya Pul and Trek to Ulleri:

A half-hour drive to Naya Pul marks the beginning of the trek. Start by walking to Birethanti, a thriving town along the Modi River. Traverse the main trail to Sudami, gradually climbing to Hile (1495m) before reaching Tirkhe Dhunga. The trail crosses a stream, ascending a steep stone staircase to the sizable Magar village of Ulleri (2070m).

 

Day 5: Ulleri to Ghorepani:

A pleasant walking day through rhododendron and oak forests, crossing streams before making a short climb to Nangethanti. From Nangethanti, ascend to Ghorepani (2850m).

 

Day 6: Ghorepani to Poon Hill to Tadapani:

An early morning hike to Poon Hill offers panoramic views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung Himalayan ranges, and a sunrise over the Himalayas. Descend to Ghorepani and continue trekking to Tadapani (2625m) after breakfast, following ridges through rhododendron and pine forests.

 

Day 7: Tadapani to Ghandruk:

The trail descends to Ghandrung through rhododendron forests, then continues towards Ghandruk. Explore the village of Ghandruk.

 

Day 8: Ghandruk to Birethanti to Pokhara:

The trail enters the narrow wooded valley of the Modi Khola, guiding you through the village to Birethanti, and finally continuing to Nayapool. Drive back to Pokhara.

 

Day 9: Pokhara to Kathmandu (6 hrs), 220km:

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive or flight back to Kathmandu. Transfer to the hotel.

 

Day 10: Final Departure:

Transfer to the international airport for your onward flight.
